Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a biopsychosocial disorder that can affect many facets of a child’s (or adults) life.  Typically, ADHD is inherited, but can also be acquired through trauma or head injury.  This neurochemical disorder can significantly impact attention, impulse control, social relationships, and learning.

The psychologists at CHLA conduct assessments that evaluate selective attention, sustained attention, shifting attention and inhibition.  In addition to norm referenced assessments, parent and teacher rating scales are used to identify if symptoms are present in multiple areas of the child or adult’s life.  The evaluation identifies any developmental delays in attention and an intervention and accommodation plan is created to address these delays.
